True single chip, low power Bluetooth IC

22 May 2002 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Infineon Technologies' new BlueMoon Single, the PMB8760, is ideally suited to size-sensitive applications. This is a sophisticated member of the company's BlueMoon family and combines Infineon's expertise in radio circuit design with its state-of-the-art CMOS technology. The advanced architecture integrates a new high-performance CMOS radio component in the Bluetooth Version 1.1 qualified and proven baseband controller of the BlueMoon I chipset.

This single chip solution comes in LFBGA-81 package, (7 x 7 mm2), and integrates: LNA, low IF receiver, voice coding (PCM, CVSD), 2,4 GHz RF driver amplifier with 4 dBm output power; 13 MHz low power oscillator with on-chip PLL; ROM for low cost. No external filter (SAW) is required and full SW tuning and trimming is possible. The PMB8760 has high RF sensitivity (-85 dBm @ 0,1% BER).

Interfaces: UART (2, 4 wired); PCM (A-law, µ-law); PA output control; wake up line; interface for optional external memory. Applications are in cellular, PDAs, headsets, handhelds and other size-sensitive applications.
