1,4-2,7 GHZ yagi antenna

27 March 2002 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Poynting Antennas launched a new moulded yagi antenna at the Broadband Wireless World Forum 2002. This antenna can be used for various applications in the 1,4-2,7 GHz bands with WorldSpace DAB, PCS, DECT, GSM1800/1900 and ISM 2,4 GHz models available from stock. Modern volume production tooling ensures low manufacturing cost with the antenna available at around $15 for large quantities, says Poynting.

Poynting Antennas' agent in the USA is dBi Plus based in Austin, Texas. They represented the antenna range at the BWA show. According to Dale Barnett of dBi Plus "The moulded yagi was the big attraction of the show. People went crazy over it ... we had the coolest toy that stole the show!"

The plastic moulded yagi was designed for use in the 1,4-2,7 GHz frequency range. Specific models have been designed covering the WorldSpace 1,45 GHz range, the PCS 1850-1990 MHz range (PCS version includes DECT frequency range) and ISM WLAN 2,4 -2,5 GHz applications. This plastic injection-moulded antenna is made of a low loss thermoplastic, which has good electromagnetic properties as well as being durable. A proprietary coating is applied to the antenna that gives almost infinite UV protection as well as a completely waterproof product.

The antenna comes complete with mounting bracket, 30 centimetres of 50 W cable terminated in an N-type connector (female). Antennas are easy to erect and the ready-to-connect clamps and wing nuts allow one to mount it on pipes between 20-55 mm diameter. The antennas have gain from 11 to 13 dBi and a front to back ratio of 15-19 dB depending on the frequency band.

Any specific model could be designed to obtain roughly 5% gain and VSWR bandwidth.

Poynting Antennas in Wynberg, Johannesburg, also supplies industry with electromagnetic engineering research and development services and products.
