FEM for BLE/802.15.4/Thread/ZigBee

15 November 2017 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The new SKY66114-11 from Skyworks is its latest 2,4 GHz, fully integrated RF front-end module (FEM) designed to support Bluetooth Low Energy/Bluetooth Smart, 802.15.4, Thread and ZigBee applications. The device is ideal for voice assistants, sensors, beacons, smart watches, thermostats, wireless cameras/headphones, medical pendants, hearing aids and more.

According to Skyworks, the SKY66114-11 extends range more than four times compared to a standalone system-on-chip (SoC) solution, and delivers a receive sensitivity boost of up to 7 dB improvement versus an SoC alone. It incorporates an integrated high-gain, low-noise LNA, transmit bypass path and digital controls.

The chip operates on a wide supply voltage range from 1,7 to 3,6 V, allowing for use in a broad spectrum of battery-powered applications. It boasts fast switch on/off time (<800 nsec) to enable rapid timing and multiprotocol arbitration, and comes in a small footprint solution (16-pin, 2,4 x 2,4 x 0,8 mm package).
