Sub-GHz wireless sensor board

10 August 2016 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Available from STMicroelectronics is the STEVAL-IDI005V1, a wireless sensor board powered by a CR2032 coin-cell battery. The board is designed to provide several example sub-GHz, Smart Home and Smart Things applications, such as heat allocator, smart remote control and wireless sensor node with 868 MHz sub-GHz connectivity.

Based on the SP1ML 868 MHz sub-GHz module, the board includes firmware to communicate with the STEVAL-SP1ML868 USB dongle for the SPIRIT1 module. With these, a point-to-point network can be created with a master STEVAL-SP1ML868 (connected to a PC via HyperTerminal or similar) and STEVAL-IDI005V1 slaves nodes.

Using HyperTerminal on the USB port connected to the STEVAL-SP1ML868 USB dongle, AT commands can be sent to monitor the humidity, temperature, motion XYZ, LED and button status information on the STEVAL-IDI005V1 node.

Alternatively, demo firmware for point-to-point (P2P) communication between two STEVALIDI005V1 boards is available on request. In this case, a node 1 board communicates with another node 2 board, which lights an LED on the remote board when the button on the first board is pressed.
