STMicroelectronics’ BlueNRG is a very low-power Bluetooth low energy (BLE) single-mode network processor, compliant with Bluetooth specification v4.0.
It can act as master or slave, and runs the entire Bluetooth low energy stack on its embedded ARM Cortex M0 core. Non-volatile Flash memory allows stack upgrading in the field.
The chip allows applications to meet the tight advisable peak current requirements imposed with the use of standard coin cell batteries, thanks to maximum peak current of only 10 mA at 1 dBm of output power. Ultra low-power sleep modes and very short transition times between operating modes allow very low average current consumption, resulting in longer battery life.
BlueNRG offers the option of interfacing with external microcontrollers using an SPI transport layer. It operates across the supply voltage range of 2,0 to 3,6 V and integrates a linear regulator and DC-DC step-down converter. Up to +8 dBm output power is available at the antenna connector, providing for an RF link budget up to 96 dB.
The device includes a full link controller and host security, along with on-chip non-volatile Flash memory and AES security co-processor. It is supplied in QFN32 (5 x 5 mm) and WLCSP34 (2,66 x 2,56 mm) packages certified for operation from -40°C to 85°C.
