High-speed wireless modem

26 October 2011 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Otto Wireless Solutions has débuted the latest in its lineup of ready-to-deploy finished wireless products, the SIM5218E DUAL I/F modem.

The device is an HSDPA/HSUPA (7,2 Mbps/5,76 Mbps) industrial modem based on the SIM5218E module from SIMCom. It features the Qualcomm 6270 core internally and, as such, supports Qualcomm’s LUA scripting language, allowing customers to embed small applications into the modem, which potentially moves the product into the application level within a company’s own individual specification, as opposed to being purely a bit-pipe type modem suitable only as an after-market device.

The device itself features a standard serial port as well as a high-speed USB port for those applications where speed is required. In addition to this, an audio interface is also provided. It also boasts an internal GPS. Two antenna connectors are provided on the back plate, one for the 3G GSM antenna and one for the GPS antenna. Combining the hardware capability of HSDPA/HSUPA/3G/EDGE/GPRS with GPS capability makes the SIM5218E DUAL I/F suitable for use as a hardware platform for simple location-based services.

The modem is a complete solution, delivered in a robust aluminium casing along with power supply, audio/microphone lead, serial cable, USB cable, GSM antenna and GPS antenna.
