Gigabit PHY for embedded Ethernet

9 June 2010 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Micrel recently announced the KSZ9021GN and KSZ9021RN, two new single-port 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit transceivers that support data transfer over a standard CAT-5 unshielded twisted pair cable. The solutions are designed for home, industrial, SOHO and SMB applications, such as set-top boxes, broadband gateways, media converters and IP devices for voice and video.

The high level of on-chip integration in the KSZ9021 series results in reduced system bill of materials, simplified hardware design, improved signal integrity and reduced emissions. Features include termination resistors and LDO controller, along with built-in diagnostic features. The IEEE802.3-compliant transceivers feature RGMII (KSZ9021RN) and GMII (KSZ9021GN) interfaces. They also offer LinkMD cable diagnostics that support quick resolution of common cabling problems. Automatic MD/MDIX crossover support eliminates the need for a cross-over cable, and the devices are available for both commercial and industrial temperature ranges.
