RF transceiver for ISM bands

20 January 2010 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The SX1231 from Semtech is a highly integrated RF transceiver capable of operation over a wide frequency range, including the 433, 868 and 915 MHz licence-free ISM (industry scientific and medical) frequency bands. Its highly integrated architecture allows for a minimum of external components while maintaining design flexibility. All major RF communication parameters are programmable and most of them can be dynamically set.

The SX1231 offers the advantage of programmable narrowband and wideband communication modes without the need to modify external components. The device is optimised for low power consumption while offering high RF output power and channelised operation. True RF technology enables a low-cost external component count (elimination of the SAW filter) while still satisfying ETSI and FCC regulations. The SX1231 is suitable for automated meter reading, wireless sensor networks, home and building automation, wireless alarm and security systems, industrial monitoring and control applications.

The transceiver features receive sensitivity down to -120 dBm at 1,2 Kbps and high selectivity with a 16-tap FIR channel filter. The front end provides IIP3 performance of -18 dBm and IIP2 of +35 dBm, with 80 dB blocking immunity. The receiver consumes 16 mA, with 100 nA register retention, while the output RF power is programmable from -18 to +17 dBm with 1 dB steps.
