Hittite has expanded its power detector product line to include a new wideband logarithmic detector which is suitable for a range of applications including point-to-point microwave radio, VSAT, test and measurement, receiver signal strength indication (RSSI) and general wideband power monitoring from 8 to 30 GHz. The HMC662LP3E converts RF signals at its input to a proportional DC voltage at its output, employing successive compression topology which delivers high dynamic range over a wide input frequency range. The device provides a ±3 dB dynamic range of more than 50 dB up to 30 GHz, and the logarithmic error over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range is less than ±1 dB up to 18 GHz. Optimised as a logarithmic detector for high volume microwave radio and VSAT applications, the HMC662LP3E provides a nominal logarithmic slope of +13 mV/dB, and an intercept of -127 dBm at 18 GHz.
