Atom-based SBC with PCI-104 interface

15 April 2009 Computer/Embedded Technology

Kontron has extended its family of embedded 3,5 inch (102 x 147 mm) JRexplus single board computers (SBC) with the new JRexplus-DC based on the 45 nm Intel Atom N270 processor.

Designed for use with expansion cards based on the PCI-104 standard, the board offers price-optimised performance for developing a wide range of extremely flat small form factor designs.

The JRexplus-DC offers high processing performance at a low power envelope of only 10 W. Designed for high efficiency, system developers benefit from the front panel connectors that are located in the same place on all standard Kontron JRexplus products for easy and fast design-in. In particular, developers of extremely compact devices benefit from the PCI-104 interface that enables the use of PCI-104 extension cards for developing application-specific solutions.

Equipped with the mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset and ICH7M south bridge, the SBC supports up to 1 GB of DDR2 RAM via the SO-DIMM slot and offers a wide range of interfaces. For hard drives and other storage media two SATA and one PATA interface is provided, while there is a Gigabit Ethernet port for fast network data exchange as well as an additional 10/100 Mbit Ethernet interface. The module also comes with six USB 2.0 ports (two on the front panel) and two RS232 interfaces as well as one LPT, floppy and PS/2 Mouse. There are also four GPIO and a CF card on the back side. With onboard TPM 1.2 (trusted platform module) the board offers data and licence protection. Power supply is via the ATX-conforming 10 pole connector. Kontron also supplies the connector cable and adapter if required.

In addition to the DVI-I for digital and analog video output, LCD flat panels with resolutions up to UXGA (1600 x 1200) are controlled directly via the JILI30 dual channel LVDS interface for which there are already a large number of cables for different types of displays. TTL flat panels are connected via an LVDS-to-TTL adapter.

The JRexplus-DC supports Windows Vista, XP, XPe, CE and Linux.
