Signal- and power-isolated transceivers

Analog Devices has released two integrated, galvanically-isolated RS485/422 transceivers, each featuring an integrated isolated power converter. The ADM2587E and ADM2582E integrate a line driver, line receiver, oscillator, rectifier, regulator and transformers into a single chip that isolates both the data and power lines in a 10 x 13 mm surface mount package. With a 2,5 kV isolation rating, the new transceivers comply with industry-standard isolation regulations, including UL1577 and DIN VDE 0884-10. The devices employ Analog Devices’ iCoupler technology, which is based on chip-scale transformers, rather than on the LEDs and photodiodes found in optocouplers. Transformers can support higher data rates and lower power consumption, and are more stable over life than LEDs and photodiodes.
