ISM-band transmitter

Semtech has announced the new SX1230, a high-performance integrated ISM-band transmitter IC.

Built using Semtech’s TrueRF technology, the device extends Semtech’s RF transmitter product platform with a part that integrates all the radio components on a CMOS die, minimising the need for other passive components and reducing the bill of materials accordingly.

The SX1230 features dual power amplifiers with 35 dB programmable output power, ranging from -18 dBm to +17 dBm with a constant radio performance over the full power supply and temperature range. TrueRF technology reduces phase noise to achieve a signal purity that simplifies regulatory testing. It can operate in the 315, 434, 868 and 915 MHz licence-free ISM bands, and is power optimised for low consumption, drawing as little as 8 mA depending on output power level.

The device features programmable data rates up to 600 Kbps and supports both narrowband and wideband modes for use in professional and consumer applications such as automatic meter reading, remote control and remote keyless entry. It operates in MCU mode where it acts as a system peripheral interface (SPI) slave, or in standalone SPI master mode, with control and payload information coming from an externally connected programmable ROM device.
