ESD protection for very fast data lines

Circuit & System Protection
NXP Semiconductors has launched a tiny ESD protection device for very fast data lines in an ultra-thin leadless package (UTLP) that claims industry-lowest clamping voltage in a leadless package. The new device is designed for the protection of consumer electronics such as TVs, notebook computers, set-top boxes, gaming consoles and DVD players.
Targeted at high-speed interfaces such as the HDMI 1.3 port, the new IP4281CZ10 delivers 8 kV of contact ESD protection (level 4 according to the IEC61000-4-2 standard), whilst having excellent positive and negative ESD pulse reduction for its size. At the same time, NXP’s reference solution will keep the impedance dip in TDR measurements small to make impedance matching easy. The design’s friendly 'pass through' signal routing saves design time and board space.
