To address the growing popularity of the Ethernet/IP protocol in industrial automation, Phoenix Contact’s FLM BK EIP M12 DI8 M12-2TX Fieldline Modular bus coupler with eight digital inputs can connect a Fieldline Modular local bus station to an Ethernet network.

The integrated, manageable 3-port switch makes setting up a linear bus topology possible. The transmission rates are 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps and are selected by the device automatically. The interfaces can also switch the receive and transmit lines automatically. The bus coupler supports the TCP and UDP protocols.

The module establishes a powerful local bus with a selectable transfer rate of 500 Kbps or 2 Mbps. The local bus has a total length of 20 m and can connect up to 16 I/O devices. The sensor power supply is protected against short circuits and overloads and thus guarantees high system availability. The diagnosis and status displays for the power supply and network and local bus operation with corresponding monitoring functions reduce bus downtimes and provide support if service becomes necessary.
