Siemens introduced the first compact tri-band GSM/GPRS module equipped with a GPS receiver for satellite navigation. The XT55 combines GSM/GPRS with GPS technology to allow seamless tracking of goods, vehicles, and persons.
The new tracking module will make many new applications possible, particularly in the fields of transportation and logistics as well as security, says the company.
With the XT55, the GSM/GPRS and GPS combination enables a wide range of tracking solutions in applications such as fleet management, vehicle tracking, navigation, emergency calling, and location-based services in a single PCB mountable module. The module can, for instance, make the transportation of valuable freight more secure by continually transmitting positioning data on the location of the freight to the owner and the freight forwarder.
The XT55 module with GPS is an all-in-one solution that is intended to accelerate new products' time-to-market. It has pre-configured functions and a compact size that makes it easy to integrate into new applications. Integrators can now benefit from quicker and more precise positioning via 12 parallel channels. The XT55 also has an integrated TCXO to allow the support for high sensitivity SiRFXTrac software. The custom evaluation kit includes various standard settings and protocols for the module, enabling seamless integration into new applications. R&TTE, GCF, and network operator certification have already been obtained, thereby simplifying the approval process.
Key features of the XT55 include:
* GSM tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHz).
* Compact dimensions (53 x 34 x 5,1 mm).
* Very low power consumption in energy-saving mode.
* GPRS class 10.
* Quicker positioning via 12 parallel channels.
* More precise positioning as TCXO technology is used.
An evaluation kit is available that provides different default settings and/or protocols that help facilitate integration of the module.
