NetShield provides cost-effective disparate network connectivity

26 January 2005 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT Security Services & Risk Management

Network managers searching for the most cost-effective and uncomplicated means of connecting disparate networks need look no further than the recently-introduced NetShield range of bridge media converters claims IT and communications systems distributor, Comztek.

To ensure that the units are affordable and cost-effective for organisations of all sizes and budgets, NetShield SA is offering the 10/100Base auto-sensing bridge media converters through Comztek at R395 excluding VAT.

NetShield SA, a South African research and development house, specialises in the manufacture of networking and telecommunications products. According to Kobie Coetzee, NetShield product manager at Comztek, the new bridge media converters are perfect for fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet copper to fibre switching and connectivity, ensuring that data and voice traffic remains uncompromised as it moves from one network to the next.

"Organisations are able to combine their industrial control data-communications, voice and Ethernet networks into one network, thereby reducing the cost of maintaining dissimilar networks," she says.

The range includes two new models, both of which comply with IEEE standards and meet CE Certification quality requirements:

* The NetShield 10/100Base-TX/FX bridge media converter enables administrators to cost-effectively connect 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps twisted pair network segments and active equipment to fibre-optic cabling.

* The NetShield Gigabit Ethernet bridge media converter supports 1000Base-T and 1000Base-SX/LX media and supports both multimode and single mode fibre-optic network connection.

"The bridge media converters are suited to backbone fibre-optic networks carrying either voice or data or both and are ideal for companies in mining and heavy industry as well as in the financial sector," says Inus Dreckmeyr, NetShield SA managing director.

He adds that while the NetShield bridge media converters have been designed for wired networks, development is underway on the production of wireless units.
