Phone line IC isolation voltage doubled to 3000 V

2 July 2003 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Clare has released the new 3000 V r.m.s. Litelink III Phone Line Interface IC for data access arrangements (DAA) in modems and telephony equipment. An enhancement to the internal optical isolation barrier of the CPC5620A and CPC5621A 32-pin surface mount device increases the isolation voltage by 100% from the previous 1500 V r.m.s. specification, making Litelink III a robust alternative to capacitive DAAs and bulky transformers for phone line applications.

Litelink, a single package data access arrangement, has been used in numerous products from embedded modem applications ranging in speed from V.22bis through V.92 to telephony Internet gateways and foreign exchange offices (FXOs). According to the manufacturer its internal optical barrier that separates the phone-line side from the host-side has historically provided end-users with the lowest level of field system returns due to lightning surges and other transients. The increased 3000 V r.m.s. isolation barrier further enhances the surge robustness of Litelink-based OEM equipment.

The Litelink III ICs offer a broad feature set including high-voltage isolation, proper AC and DC phone line terminations, 2-to-4 wire hybrid function, on-hook and off-hook detection, caller ID and ring detect circuitry. The CPC5620A has half-wave and the CPC5621A has full-wave ring detection.
