64 and 96 pole insulation displacement connectors

14 August 2002 Interconnection

Erni's DIN 41612 insulation displacement series connectors are available in standard 64 and 96 pole versions and allow functional and economical termination of flat cables using a simple hand tool or a press.

They are fitted with dual bifurcated insulation displacement contacts that pierces the insulation of the flat cable and makes contact with the conductors under high pressure. This makes it possible to connect conductors to 96 contact connectors in a single operation without having to first strip the cable. This low-cost corrosion-proof type of wiring provides constant contact resistance and high level strength.

A 64/96 way cable housing including strain relief is available (KSG253 253002) which comes fitted with locking/ejector screws to protect the connector against vibration and shock and act as an ejector when disconnecting. Therefore, no tension is exerted on the pins when the connector is disconnected.

Suitable guide elements which may be mounted on metal front panels, or as required, provide positive mating of connectors and also offer coding possibilities.
