Fully integrated GPS solution

3 July 2002 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

RF Micro Devices has announced the availability of its first global positioning system (GPS) receiver designed for asset tracking, telematics and automotive navigation products. The RF8000 is a fully integrated, plug-and-play 12-parallel-channel GPS receiver module that the company says simplifies product design and implementation. By using a rapid acquisition module, the RF8000 features highly accurate rapid time to first fix (TTFF) and signal reacquisition.

Designed to withstand harsh industrial environments, the GPS receiver's RF front end is manufactured using silicon germanium, providing excellent receiver sensitivity and enabling the device to perform robustly in situations where extreme vehicle movement or high signal blockage are concerns, such as dense urban areas. The GPS receiver measures 38 x 38 mm.

RFMD also offers a GPS evaluation kit, which includes a GPS unit, an active GPS antenna, power/PC cables, evaluation software and full documentation.
