Why not use silicon sensors instead of PTC thermistors? According to Infineon Technologies, its sensors have excellent long-term stability, a linear characteristic, a resistance tolerance at 25°C of 1% or ±3% and are available as a leaded or as an SMD component. Due to their small size they are space saving and have a fast response time.
Temperature sensing has in the past predominantly been the domain of PTC thermistors. The KT-series silicon temperature sensor can be a cost-competitive alternative. The TO-92 Mini is a packaging that is a small size. This results in a significantly lower thermal mass which gives a greatly improved response time. As a leaded component it lends itself for further fabrication into temperature sensor probes of reduced diameter, so sensor housings can be made physically smaller, again improving the thermal response time. It is also offered in SOT-23.
These devices are polarity-independent due to symmetrical construction. Resistance tolerance is ±1% or ±3% and temperature range -50 to +150°C. They come in two resistance types, R25 = 1 kOhm and 2 kOhm.
