Light frequently plays an important role in appliance design – be this in the form of lighting for orientation, to ensure that operating controls are easy to find, or as a status display to highlight specific operating modes or conditions. Possibilities for variation are provided by the colour of the light and the light source being either intermittent or permanently on.
For the most part, illuminated switches and keys from knitter-switch feature additional terminals for lighting control. This eliminates any restriction due to electro-plating connected switching and lighting contacts.
An example of this is the silent switches in the LP-14 series, equipped with up to an additional 8 connections for the integrated LEDs (up to four diodes, in various colours), in addition to the switching contacts. This series provides further interesting design possibilities through the option of an insertable legend and elegant cover solutions (such as darker tones).
Even simple models which can only be equipped with a single diode frequently display features such as super-bright LEDs or two-tone lighting with two connection wires. Switches used in appliances with central control voltages, e.g. control panel and control cabinets, such as the MAV series of vandalproof keys and switches, are equipped to cater for having either DC or AC voltage supplied to the lighting contacts.
