Hall sensor IC

10 November 2010 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

austriamicrosystems has introduced a new linear Hall sensor IC featuring 10-bit digital output resolution. Housed in a tiny 1,46 x 1,1 mm chip scale package, the AS5510 includes an I²C 2-wire serial interface for switching between four sensitivity ranges and for simple transmission of data to a microcontroller. It can measure the absolute position of a simple 2-pole magnet for a typical lateral stroke of 0,5-2 mm with air gaps of 1,0 mm. With stronger magnets, even higher lateral strokes and air gaps are possible. To minimise power consumption, the AS5510 can switch to a power-down mode with a current consumption of 25 μA. The IC is specified over the -30°C to +85°C temperature range, comes in a 6-pin WLCSP and operates from a 2,5 V to 3,6 V supply voltage.
