Maxim’s new MAX14502 is a Hi-Speed USB-to-SD card bridge that offers fast read/write speeds for portable electronics. This IC bypasses the slow processor of original USB applications, servicing the data transfer with an integrated processor. It thus eliminates the time-consuming and complicated task of developing a software driver, allowing designers to conveniently add Hi-Speed USB to their applications.
The MAX14502 supports SDHC and can operate with either one or two SD card ports. It conserves valuable I/Os by allowing simple control through one GPIO, or an I²C interface for the 2-port option. The device is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range and is available in lead-free packages. The 1-port version is packaged in a 5 x 5 mm, 40-pin TQFN, while the 2-port version is available in a 3,23 x 3,5 mm, 56-bump WLP (wafer-level package).
