High-performance GNSS module

30 August 2024 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The SIM66D-R from Simcom is a high-performance standalone L1 + L5 dual-band GNSS module. With integrated low-noise amplifier, the module achieves a high level of sensitivity and accuracy. Time to First Fix (TTFF) is low thanks to the built-in AGNSS support; a cold start takes 24 s, while a hot start is less than 1 s. The module consumes 10 mA in both acquisition and tracking mode, with only a 1 µA draw in backup mode.

The SIM66D-R provides simultaneous connection to GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and QZSS constellations on L1, and connection to GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS and NAVIC constellations on L5. The module can acquire and track any mix of multiple satellite signals, making it useful for determining position in mountainous and dense urban areas.

Besides the standard UART interface, the SIM66D-R also provides I2C and digital I/O with a pulse per second signal. Communication protocol is the NMEA standard.
