New from Maxim is the DS8313, a low-power, low-cost smartcard interface that performs level translation between a host microcontroller and a 5 V, 3 V or 1,8 V smartcard, while providing up to 80 mA for smartcard operation. The device features a low-power stop mode (10 nA), allowing applications to support smartcard communication without increasing the power budget. In addition, it provides ± kV ESD protection (IEC) to prevent damage to the application during card insertion and removal. Designed for ISO 7816 and B-CAS applications, the DS8313 is suitable for pay/premium television, financial terminals, consumer set-top boxes, SIM card readers and smartcard reader products. The DS8313 operates over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range and is available in lead-free 28-pin SO and TSSOP packages.
