New from Maxim is the MAX16054, a pushbutton on/off controller with debounce circuitry and ±15 kV ESD protection. It features state memory that causes the output state to latch after the switch is released/opened, thereby allowing normally open switches to act as on/off switches. The device’s integrated switch-debounce circuitry allows it to accept a noisy input from a mechanical switch and produce a clean, latched digital output signal. Moreover, the IC’s input features over-voltage clamping diodes that allow the device to handle voltage swings of ±25 V to ground. The device consumes only 7 microamps of quiescent current and is available in a small, 6-pin thin-SOT23 package, fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range.
