Sirenza Microdevices has been awarded a US patent entitled 'Direct Coupled Distributed Amplifier'. This patent is one of several awarded to Sirenza in the area of broadband amplifier ICs and discloses an approach for obtaining very broad bandwidth operation from cascaded distributed amplifiers.
"The distributed amplifier is traditionally a workhorse component for a variety of broadband military, test equipment, and fibre-optic applications. One challenge with achieving this design innovation is cascading multiple distributed amplifiers to obtain higher gain while also maintaining multidecade bandwidth performance," said Kevin Kobayashi, senior director of advanced design at Sirenza.
"This invention combines active analog techniques with a microwave distributed design approach, incorporating ideas from various design disciplines. The result is a multistage, direct-coupled distributed topology that can provide high gain, multidecade frequency operation, and temperature compensation attractive for a wide range of broadband applications," he added.
