15 W Class-D amplifier for flat-panel displays

Maxim says that its MAX9704, a 15 W stereo, Class-D audio amplifier, offers the audio quality typically associated with linear (Class-AB) amps and the benefits of high-efficiency Class-D operation, eliminating the need for bulky, expensive heatsinking.

The MAX9704 employs the company's patented spread-spectrum modulation scheme which reduces EMI emissions up to 6 dB. This allows the device to meet FCC EMI test levels without additional filtering, which makes them ideal for thin-profile applications such as flat-panel TVs and PC displays.

The MAX9704 offers 0,07% THD+N, high 80 dB at 1 kHz PSRR, and industry-leading click-and-pop performance levels. The device operates over a 10 to 25 V single supply and can produce up to 15 W per channel into an 8 Ω load. Differential inputs and four selectable gain options allow the user to optimise the signal-to-noise ratio under different load and input level conditions. Four flexible clocking options control the noise spectrum for a given application. The stereo MAX9704 in 32-pin QFN operates over -40 to +85°C.
