Evaluation kit for wireless RS232 datalinks

22 October 2003 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

A new evaluation kit from Radiometrix is designed for fast, simple and accurate testing in application of the company's highly integrated bidirectional wireless serial interface module - the SpacePort modem (SPM).

The SPM is an OEM product that can be easily incorporated into both new and existing designs and it uses addressable data packets with error checking, packet acknowledgements and retransmissions to achieve a reliable and invisible wireless datalink.

Built for ease of use and rapid installation, the SPM has many applications in point-to-point telemetry, telecommand and telecontrol to/from outstations or machinery, communications to and from PDAs, EPOS equipment, dataloggers, etc, or anywhere wireless RS232 datalinks are required.

As such, it is important that the SpacePort modem be easily tested for functional integrity when in application, and this evaluation kit helps ensure this. It transforms the SPM into a complete radio modem and it features a 5 V, 1 A supply, ideal for powering up DTE such as bar code scanners. Test operations are observed through the use of optical cues using light emitting diodes. An onboard RS232 driver is used for direct serial port connection and a hyper terminal gives access to internal diagnostic and test modes. The hyper terminal also eases set-up and configuration routines. In addition, users can gain access to each data/control pin for external interfacing or testing.
