Maxim offers the DS2740 device that provides high-precision current-flow measurement data to support battery-capacity monitoring. Current is measured bidirectionally over a 15- or 13-bit dynamic range.
A high-precision, low-cost fuel gauge device, the DS2740 is available in two resolution grades: a 15-bit version (DS2740U) that can measure continuous current as low as 78 µA and as high as 2,56 A, and a 13-bit version (DS2740UB) that can measure continuous current as low as 312 µA and as high as 2,56 A, when either is used with an external 20 mΩ sense resistor. Typical offset error is ±1LSb.
Through its 1-wire interface, the device allows the host system read/write access to status and current measurement registers. Each device has a unique factory-programmed 64-bit net address that allows it to be individually addressed by the host system, supporting multibattery slot operation.
