Breakout board for sensor fusion hub

2 September 2015 Design Automation

The new MM7150 9-axis sensor fusion module from Microchip combines a gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer on a single module.

A problem frequently encountered by developers working with electronic gyroscopes is that they commonly suffer from some small amount of drift – a measurement error which can report that the gyroscope is slowly rotating, when it is in fact stationary. This measurement error can be a source of great annoyance when trying to produce stable and accurate products.

The motion coprocessor on the MM7150, its most distinguishing feature, uses the other sensors to suppress gyroscope drift and magnetic distortion, whilst also continually performing background calibration, in order to provide a more accurate reading; the raw signals from the individual sensors are also still available, should the user require them.

For developers wishing to integrate the MM7150 into their designs, the ‘3D Motion click’ breakout board from MikroElektronika offers a quick way to get started with the module.
