Phase-stable cable assemblies operate up to 50 GHz

29 June 2022 Interconnection

The Lab-Flex T series from Smiths Interconnect are phase-stable cable assemblies that operate up to 50 GHz. They are designed to be low-loss, high-frequency cables that have minimal phase change over changing temperature and flexure.

The phase response of these cable assemblies near room temperature is virtually flat and the phase over flexure response is extremely stable as well. These cable assemblies are made with a special foam fluoropolymer insulation and use a temperature-stable foam dielectric to minimise phase deviation over a wide temperature range. They provide shielding of more than 100 dB and have a velocity of propagation of 80%. These cable assemblies are an ideal choice for any application requiring consistency in the signal timing.

The cables, which have a standard length of 91 cm, have an impedance of 50 Ω and a temperature rating of -65 to 165°C. The flexible cable has a shielding effectiveness of >100 dB/ft.

The Lab-Flex T Series cable assemblies go through extensive qualification testing to validate rigorous application requirements. They are available with SMA/SMPM/SMP/2,4/2,92 mm connector options and are suitable for use in radar, test & measurement, space, GEO/MEO/LEO, and small satellite applications.
