Skyworks recently introduced the SKY68031-11, a miniature, multi-band RF front-end (RFFE) module for licenced low-power wide-area network applications making use of LTE-M or NB-IoT connectivity. These include asset tracking, health and fitness wearables, smart metering and industrial monitoring.
This module integrates the entire RF front-end necessary for a cellular IoT radio operating in low-band (5, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 26, 28, 85) and mid-band (1, 2, 3, 4, 25, 39, 66, 70) frequencies. The front-end module (FEM) monolithically integrates a broadband power amplifier (PA), transmit harmonic filters, antenna switch and MIPI RFFE controller, all in a compact 3 x 3 mm package.
The SKY68031-11 features global coverage with up to 20 frequency bands, enabling the same FEM and printed circuit board design to be used anytime, anywhere. It represents a turnkey solution – PA, harmonic filters, antenna switch and matching – designed hand-in-glove with the package and requiring minimal effort to use. The 9 mm2 package enables significant size reduction and usability in system-in-packages (SiPs).
Up to six different bias conditions can be pre-defined and programmed through the MIPI interface to optimise PA performance and reduce current consumption.
