DC-to-18 GHz RF switch

24 November 2021 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Menlo Micro's new MM5120 SP4T DC-to-18 GHz Ideal Switch offers leading-edge performance for RF switching applications, and significantly reduces the cost and complexity of high-power RF designs, the company claims. Menlo Micro also boasts “industry-leading RF and thermal performance, significantly outperforming conventional electromechanical (EM) relays and solid-state switches.”

The new switch’s design enhances integration into a host of RF, microwave and high-speed applications ranging from filters and switch matrices to high-speed load boards and beamforming antennas. It has an internal charge pump and driver circuit, which eliminates the need for high voltage routing on a customer's board, and flexible +3,3 V or +5 V biasing with options for both SPI bus and GPIO digital interfaces.

Other performance figures are:

• Less than 0,6 dB insertion loss at 12 GHz.

• Ultra-high reliability of more than 3 billion switching operations.

• Maximum frequency of 18 GHz.

• Isolation in excess of 17 dB @ 18 GHz.

• Power handling: 25 W (CW), >150 W (pulsed).

• Linearity (IP3) more than 90 dBm.

• Power consumption below 5 mW.

• Switching time shorter than 10 µs.
