Small surface-mount tantalum capacitors have very high CV rating
12 March 2003
Passive Components
AVX's 0402 TACMicrochip is claimed to be one of the industry's smallest surface-mount tantalum capacitors. Offering design engineers the highest CV rating in an 0402 size, the TACMicrochip provides enhanced high frequency performance through superior ESR characteristics with temperature and voltage stability. Part of the company's TAC Series of capacitors, together with the 0805 and 0603 case sizes, these capacitors for surface-mount offer high volumetric efficiency.
Where conventional lead frame devices are comprised of only 30% active tantalum element, AVX's new process increases this volume to more than 70% in the TAC Series capacitors, while reducing the overall size of the capacitor significantly.
Typical CV specifications for the 0402 TACMicrochip include some of the industry's highest, such as 0,47 µF at 10 V; 1,0 µF at 6 V; and 2,2 µF at 3 V. Standard capacitance tolerances are ±20% over -55°C to +125°C. It is also available in 0603 and 0805 case sizes, with the following voltage options: 2, 3, 4, 6,3, 10 and 16 V.
AVX offers a high reliability version in the 0603 and 0805 case sizes, qualified for use in medical applications.
