The Variosub RJ-45/IP67 connector from Phoenix Contact has been specially developed to withstand adverse conditions associated with use directly on machinery and in industrial installations, and to protect the RJ-45 contact insert. It meets IAONA requirements for heavy-duty use, thus enabling the office world's standard connector to be used in harsh industrial Ethernet environments.
To provide protection against dirt and moisture ingress, the connector meets protection category IP67. The housing is made from an impact- and temperature-resistant, UV-stable polyamide and is also resistant to chemicals, oils, and greases. It is built to withstand impacts and vibration. The connector is also protected against the effects of forces pulling the mounting and hood sides apart, lateral forces on the connector housing, and forces pulling the cables out of the cable grip. The components are amply screened against adverse EMC conditions.
No tools are needed to lock the plug housing to the mounting frame-as it is a 'push and play' operation. This simplifies both setting up and maintenance work, since connectors are easy to unplug, plug in, and move.
Variosub RJ-45 connectors are suitable for fast Ethernet transmissions at 100 Mbps in accordance with Class D or Category 5 of EN 50173, 2001 revision. This standard, also called Cat 5+, represents future security and sufficient spare capacity for plant modernisation. Furthermore, the Variosub connector is compatible with standard RJ-45. Thus the customary cables and test equipment from the office world can continue to be used without cumbersome adapters or similar solutions.
