10 Gigabit Ethernet systems

Interconnection
Molex is actively introducing products to support systems implementing 10 Gb speed data rates. Molex product families include optical transceivers, copper transceivers, guiderail systems, SMD electrical connectors, and fibre-optic and copper cabling.
The Xenpak and Xpak multisource agreements (MSA) define the electrical and optical interfaces and mechanical dimensions to ensure pluggable interoperable operation between multiple transceiver suppliers. These MSAs operate on a 4 lane electrical differential interface. These interfaces are either 3,125/3, 1875 Gbps XAUI which supports 10 Gb Ethernet and 10 Gb fibre channel or 2,488 Gbps SFI4 phase2 which supports OC-192.
Benefits of the 10-Gb Ethernet pluggable system:
* Supports all IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gb Ethernet and 1200-MX-SN-1 10 Gb fibre channel PMD implementations.
* Enables horizontal Z-axis front panel access.
* Conforms to connector and transceiver specifications defined in Xenpak and Xpak MSAs.
* MSAs provide plug-and-play interoperability among multiple suppliers to assure supply for meeting market demand.
* Provides 'postponement manufacturing' by allowing configuration to the host just prior to shipment, increasing configuration flexibility and inventory cost advantages.
* Allows 'pay as you populate' cost structure for end user after installation.
* 10 Gb Ethernet system potential to provide 10 times the bandwidth at only three times the cost.
