Popular temp sensor now in 8-pin SOIC

12 February 2003 Power Electronics / Power Management

ADI's AD590 temperature sensor is now offered in a modern 8-pin SOIC package, in addition to its original metal can (TO-52) and flat pack packages. First introduced in 1975, the AD590 has retained its popularity because of its accuracy, stability and low noise - as well as its immunity to line-voltage drops, which is particularly useful in remote sensing applications.

The AD590 is a two-terminal integrated circuit temperature transducer that produces an output current proportional to absolute temperature over a broad temperature range (-55 to +125°C). For supply voltages between +4 V and +30 V the device acts as a high-impedance, constant-current regulator passing 1 µA/K. Laser trimming is used to calibrate the device to 298,2 µA output at 298,2K (+25°C). Worst-case error is 3°C at 25°C and 4°C from -55°C to +125°C.
