Spirent Communications, represented in southern Africa by Spescom MeasureGraph's Communications Test Division, has announced that NEWS IQ, a leading provider of independent testing and evaluation laboratory services for wireless devices, has chosen Spirent's Wireless LAN solution for lab testing services. Spirent says that its WLAN solution is the industry's first end-to-end test solution to address the performance, network simulation and impairment test requirements of the IEEE 802.11 WLAN market.
"The wireless market continues to grow based on the need to reduce the costs associated with network infrastructures and to support mobile networking applications that improve productivity and reduce business costs," said Aaron Vance, WLAN analyst for Synergy Research Group. "While it is clear that wireless networks save time and money over wired networks, the integrity of the networks need to be verified to ensure reliability."
Dependent upon specific customer testing requirements, solution components can include Spirent's SmartBits 600/6000B performance analysis systems, Adtech AX/4000 broadband test system, TAS4500 FLEX5 RF Channel emulator, and TAS5600 RF interference emulator. The combined solution provides a broad range of performance and proof-of-concept testing capabilities. It is also said to be very flexible and easy to use, with intuitive scripting tools and automated test application software.
With the Spirent WLAN solution, NEWS IQ will expand its current lab testing capabilities to include comparative performance and standards compliance WLAN testing for wireless equipment and device manufacturers and service providers, including hot spot operators and aggregators.
"Spirent's WLAN offering is the only solution available today that enables us to provide both RF and data testing with an integrated solution," said James Fraley, chief technology officer for NEWS IQ.
"While WLAN networks perform similar functions to wired networks, RF-based LAN devices and infrastructures are prone to a variety of factors making them less predictable," said Bahaa Moukadam, vice president product marketing for Spirent Communications - performance analysis broadband. "Until now, a test system solution to validate the behaviour of WLAN networks under a variety of conditions was not available. Spirent's WLAN solution fills an industry void allowing 802.11b and 802.11a systems to be verified cost-effectively - accelerating the speed of market maturity."
