Rugged high-side MOSFET driver

20 November 2002 Power Electronics / Power Management

Linear Technology's LT1910 is a rugged high side N-channel MOSFET driver with a wide operating supply range of 8 to 48 V and protection against supply transients from -15-60 V. It can be used as a solid-state circuit breaker or load switch to protect resistive, capacitive and inductive loads from short circuit and over-current conditions, offering faster response time than electromechanical circuit breakers. It is specifically designed for harsh operating environments. The LT1910 (in 8-pin SO package) contains a complete self-contained charge pump to fully enhance an external N-channel MOSFET without requiring any external components. The IC features short-circuit and over-current protection as well as a diagnostic output signal alert. When over-current is detected, it turns off the MOSFET and automatically turns it back on after a set time period. Over-current value and timer are adjustable by the user. It uses an integrated precision current sense comparator with external resistor to detect over-current conditions. It also easily interfaces with opto-isolators for operation in harsh environments requiring isolation.
