With the advent and growth in GSM and GPRS technology, Wavecom products from Trinity Telecomms are benchmarking a full range of solutions as industry leaders. Wavecom released its WISMO range of modems in South Africa, which has opened up new development opportunities. These wireless modems are flexible, easy-to-use and cost-effective.
Wavecom boasts the world's smallest Quad band GSM/GPRS modular solution with the capability to embed applications on the module itself. This eliminates components, additional processing requirements and board space and optimises size requirements to the minimum for applications where space is a problem. 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz modules are currently being offered.
The latest industry buzzword is Bluetooth technology that allows wireless transmission of data between electronic equipment such as video cameras and cellphones. In future, Bluetooth stacks will be provided on the module itself for easy interfacing with chipsets in any application. Another future innovation is enhanced observed time difference (EOTD) that will soon give accurate positioning capabilities to the WISMO modules for the customer's tracking applications, using only the GSM networks.
The Integra modem from Wavecom offers internal as well as external SIM card reader capabilities with a 10-button keypad interface. The modem can also be ordered with one of the following features: six general-purpose inputs/outputs, three general-purpose outputs, or one general-purpose input.
The Fastrack modem is a rugged solution for standalone type applications and is used for immediate access to applications from vending machines in remote places to data loggers situated on water lines. The modem is therefore the solution for electricity meters or alarm systems where fixed line access is a problem. The Fastrack modems are popular for mobile applications. These applications range from harsh vehicle tracking environments to communications in lifts. They are also suitable for SMS applications for moving billboards and SMS competitions on plasma screens at airports or rock concerts.
