40 V BCDMOS driver interface IC

6 November 2002 Power Electronics / Power Management

Atmel has available a new BCDMOS driver interface IC with improved performance features. Optimised for applications in harsh environments, the ATA6822 supports operations up to 40 V. The device is designed for motor control applications such as DC motor control in H-bridge configurations. Based on Atmel's U6815BM driver IC it includes four push-pull output stages, a charge pump, overvoltage as well as overtemperature protection and a control logic to communicate with a microcontroller. Two logic inputs define source or sink mode of output stages. The output stages (each capable of 1,7 A) are internally designed as half bridges with two output pins to connect the load(s). An enable signal sets the ATA6822 to current-saving standby mode (5 µA max). Output pins withstand DC voltages up to 40 V; on-resistance is as low as 2 Ohm; higher operational current is achieved through min. current limitation of 1,3 A; oscillations are avoided due to 0,5 V overvoltage hysteresis; minimised delay time of up to 12 µs. The ATA6822 comes in SO20 package, and provides full circuit protection.
