10 Gbps variable swing silicon germanium driver/receiver

31 July 2002 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

Extending its presence in the high-performance clock- and data-management arena, ON Semiconductor's NBSG16VS - a 2,5 V/3,3 V Silicon Germanium (SiGe) differential driver/receiver with a variable output swing - can be programmed to provide output amplitudes ranging between 100 mV to 700 mV peak-to-peak.

Designed specifically for use as a VCSEL laser modulation or variable gain amplifier, the NBSG16VS delivers ultra low jitter, improved signal integrity, a small footprint and optimum performance for 10 Gbps data rates. As such, the NBSG16VS is highly suited as a backplane driver/receiver for optical networking and test equipment. It is also suited for use in fibre-optic modules based on VCSEL laser technology.

SiGe technology and FCBGA packaging enables the device to effectively operate at greater than 12 Gbps, the added headroom needed for handling 10 Gb Ethernet and OC192 signals.
