Electrolytic capacitor combines very high ripple current, extended life and miniature size

16 Feb 2000 Passive Components

BC Components is offering a complete new range of electrolytic capacitors. Designed in close collaboration with a motor control customer, the 198 PHR-SI series has a miniature format, very high ripple current capability and an extended life. The 198 series capacitors are suitable for use in industrial control systems, smoothing and filtering applications, standard and switched mode power supplies and energy storage in pulse systems.

“Previously, buyers of capacitors have had to choose between capacitors that could either handle high ripple currents or had a small volume,” said Walter Bonomo, BC Components’ Marketing Manager. “Now the new 198 PHR-SI family provides both small size and very high ripple current capability. This is coupled with an increased useful life to produce a unique product, suitable for today’s and tomorrow’s requirements.”

The use of advanced electrolytes and innovative designs have created a series of nearly 50 capacitors with a very small case size, (from 22 x 25 mm to 35 x 60 mm). The 198 Series are snap-in products with 4 mm pins which do not have to be cut after mounting. They are rated from 56 to 820 µF at 400 V and 450 V, will handle very high ripple currents and have a useful life is in excess of 15 000 h at 85°C.
