UltraCaps are innovative double-layer capacitors from EPCOS. They have an extremely high capacitance of up to several thousand farads and can thus replace smaller accumulators in many cases or efficiently support larger ones and increase their operating life. Innovative applications are opening up for them, especially in automotive electronics (for storing braking energy, starting engines) and also in the industrial sector, such as for UPS, solar technology, portable tools, DECT telephones, remote controls and measuring instru- ments.
Benefits
UltraCaps store electric energy and release it with high efficiency, thus allowing maximum impulse powers to be reached. Used as the sole elements for storing the electric energy, they permit equipment and systems to be implemented with a service life of far more than 10 years and require no maintenance. Unlike accumulators, they also operate reliably at very low temperatures and low voltages. Their long life is ultimately due to the approximately 500 000 charging and discharging cycles specified for them. They can thus be charged and discharged daily with no problems.
