Two new Tektronix oscilloscope ranges released

8 May 2002 Test & Measurement

Tektronix redefined the low-cost market in 1996 with its successful TDS200 Series. Now the company's new TDS1000 and TDS2000 Series digital storage oscilloscopes (DSO) are set to once again redefine the market with new value, performance and usability features.

Both ranges are priced to meet the budget constraints of users with applications as varied as basic electronic repair tasks, automated production test and monitoring of environmental sensors. The ultra-lightweight, portable package saves valuable space on the engineer's bench and makes these instruments ideal for use by service and repair technicians in the field.

"By incorporating proven innovations from across their broad portfolio of oscilloscopes, the TDS1000 and TDS2000 ranges deliver superior performance and unmatched ease-of-use in their class," says Basil Baum, MD of local Tektronix distributor Channels Measurement Services. "Many customers put price first when evaluating test equipment for use in design, debugging, service and repair, manufacturing, quality assurance or educational applications, yet they are reticent to compromise the performance and ease-of-use they require for a lower price.

"The TDS2000 range provides more performance than any other DSO for the price, featuring a standard colour LCD, with significant bandwidth and sample rate, making it an ideal choice for today's applications," he adds. "The TDS1000 range offers the same ease-of-use enhancements with a monochrome display and all seven models provide realtime acquisition equal to their full bandwidth and sample rate on all channels simultaneously. The five models in the TDS2000 range are by far the most powerful tools in their class."

Available in 2 and 4-channel versions, the TDS2000 instruments deliver up to 200 MHz bandwidth and 2 GSa/s maximum sample rate. At this high sample rate they deliver realtime performance to capture signals with far greater precision than a conventional DSO. A standard colour LCD makes it easier to read and interpret waveforms, especially when multiple traces are displayed. The TDS1002, TDS1012 are 2-channel instruments with a 1 GSa/s maximum sample rate and bandwidth up to 100 MHz.

An abundance of features are standard with both the TDS1000 and TDS2000 ranges: Fast Fourier Transform; advanced triggering; a unique autoset function that offers automatic detection and a choice of different views of the signals. There is also an innovative probe-check wizard to ensure optimum probe set-up. Several options expand the scopes' power and usability: the TDS2CMA communications module enables communication with other instruments or systems through RS-232, GPIB, or a parallel printer port; and WaveStar is a robust software package that allows users to capture, analyse, document and control measurement results by transporting data from the scope to the PC.

"These new and affordable oscilloscope ranges are welcome news at a time when the exchange rate left many industry professionals thinking that they would have to compromise quality and performance for price," continues Baum. "They not only have the price/performance ratio engineers and technicians have been looking for but also provide significant technological and operational benefits for even the most complex applications."
