Design kit for dimming compact fluorescents

The IRPLCFL3 reference design is a ballast PCB design from International Rectifier that allows Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) dimming in household light fittings using a standard 'hardware store' phase-cut triac dimmer. The reference design showcases the IR2156 ballast control IC.
Replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps can save up to 75% in energy consumption. A dimmable CFL gives consumers a way to save energy while maintaining the advantages of dimmable lighting. This is a single and cost-effective design kit that can help CFL ballast makers quickly take dimming CFLs to market without the investment and delay of designing an applications-specific IC.
This system uses a method that allows the ballast to operate with minimal flicker from maximum output down to approximately 10% brightness. It can be customised using International Rectifier's Ballast Design Software that can be downloaded from www.irf.com
