Accord manufactures silicone rubber keypads that are made of high elastic nontoxic silicone rubber compounds. These are processed by compression or injection moulding and curing. Silicone rubber is a synthetic rubber, with a chemical formula which has the silicon-oxygen molecule as the main constitient.
Silicone rubber keypads are electronic pushbutton switches that can be specially designed according to customers specification. By special design of the membrane area, Accord produces keypads with standard strokes from 0 to 4 mm, with either tactile feedback or with continuous push-feel.
Accord keypads have achieved: operation life over 50 million cycles; diffusion printing legends that last as long as the rubber, resistance to abrasion; weight loss less than 0,5% after heat treatment 8 h, 200°C.
Silicone rubber keypads offer a wide variety of possibilities for engineers. The standard dimensions of available mechanical switches can be ignored. Design engineers can get new perspectives in designing modern models, which is not possible with standard keyswitches.
Advantages are: low tooling costs; water repellant and free from dust and contamination; comfortable feeling with tactile feedback; no noise or chattering is generated because of the soft elastic contact structure; possible in vivid multiple colours.
