Power management IC for DDR

27 March 2002 Power Electronics / Power Management

International Rectifier's IRU3038 is a synchronous PWM controller IC for the termination voltage requirements of double data rate (DDR) memory arrays. The IRU3038 simplifies design and cuts component count for power management for currents in the 3 to 10 A range. For high data rate, DDR requires termination voltage (Vtt) to be one half the supply voltage (VDDQ) within 3%. It integrates an error amplifier into the PWM controller to make implementation of the management circuit for Vtt easy and is capable of voltage tracking to accuracy of less than 1,5%. The IRU3038 integrates a high-side and low-side driver, eliminating external drive circuitry. Capable of operating with a single 5 or 12 V supply voltage, the device can be programmed to operate between 200 and 400 kHz. The device features under-voltage lockout for both VCC and VC supplies, an externally programmable soft start function as well as an output under-voltage detection. It is offered in two packages: economical narrow body SOIC- 14 and small size TSSOP-14 package.
