Moulded power inductors

27 March 2019 Passive Components

Coilcraft introduced its new XGL4020 series of high-performance moulded power inductors at this year’s Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) in California, USA. They feature very low DC and AC losses for a wide range of DC-DC converters (from hundreds of kilohertz, up to more than five megahertz), and additional performance improvements including a wider range of inductance values and improved Irms current ratings.

The parts are available in 12 inductance values from 0,33 to 8,2 μH, with current ratings up to 15,2 A and soft saturation characteristics. They also boast up to 45% lower DC resistance (DCR) than Coilcraft’s next lowest soft-saturation products, and their low DCR and high Irms allow them to operate cooler than other components.

XGL4020 series inductors are qualified to AEC-Q200 Grade 1 standards (-40°C to +125°C ambient) with a maximum part temperature of +165°C, and exhibit no thermal ageing issues, making them suitable for automotive and other harsh-environment applications. They feature RoHS-compliant, tin-silver-over-copper terminations and are halogen-free. Their composite construction also minimises audible buzzing.
